Susan Chrysler White’s brightly colored, large-scale acrylic and enamel paintings on paper are a visual delight. Her bilateral Rorschach-like images dominate compositions that alternate between dynamic abstract patterns, figures and organic forms such as moths, insects and flowers. Her main objective is to press further the exploration of boundaries between decorative impulses, emotions and philosophical sources.

She taught at Cooper Union School of Art, University of Albany, Skimore College and other universities before assuming her current position as an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Iowa, where she is head of the Painting and Drawing Department. She received fellowships and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Fabric Workshop, Yaddo. In addition she received a Philadelphia Museum of Art Purchase Award and from AMACUP (Mexican Association for Arts and Popular Culture) most creative new project: Mexico for the Milagro del Dia Project.
