9 Steps Closer to a New You, paintings by Gyan Shrosbree will be on exhibit at Unity Gallery in the Library of Maharishi University of Management from November 30 through January 3.

The exhibit, which was first shown at Shareen Downtown, Los Angeles, CA, is a blend of colorful, bold figures and humor with social relevance. Her work has also been shown recently at the Klaus Von Nichtssagend Gallery, N.Y.C.; Flat Files, Brooklyn, NY; and The Bower, San Antonio,TX.

Gyan grew up in Fairfield, graduated from the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, and received a B.F.A. degree from the Kansas City Art Institute. After graduating with an M.F.A. degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2000, Gyan moved to New York City where she lived and worked as an artist for 5 years.

As well as exhibiting her paintings and installation art, Gyan created performance pieces such as 2004's "Cut", in Brooklyn, 2002's "Trash Walk" Performance in New York, and 2001's "Stitched," in Brooklyn.

A year ago Gyan moved to Los Angeles, where she lives in an artists' colony and continues to paint in her studio. Gyan has received numerous commissions including from "In God We Trust" clothing store, 2005 - present; "Sam&Seb" children's clothing store, 2005 - present; plus a commission for furniture design in collaboration with Alex Pinkus; and a commission to design and construct bridal party clothing for the Tanner Wedding, Detroit, MI in 2003. In Fairfield, people may have seen Gyan's work in the "Shrosbree", a 2004 exhibit at Gallery 51.
