MUM Board of Trustees Appoints New Chairman and Vice-Chairman
Dr. Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management, announced during convocation ceremonies that the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees is Dr. Jeffrey Abramson and the new Vice-Chairman is Dr. Vincent Argiro.
Dr. Morris relinquished his chair after serving as Chairman for 30 years. Dr. Morris said, “I felt Dr. Abramson was so engaged in accelerating the University’s progress that I thought he would make an excellent Chair, and I proposed it to the Board — and likewise with Dr. Argiro as Vice-Chair — and the Board was unanimous in their approval.”
Dr. Jeffrey Abramson has been a trustee since 2000 and he and his wife Dr. Rona Abramson have contributed to Maharishi’s initiatives around the world for more than 35 years. Dr. Abramson is a partner in The Tower Companies, a major real estate development company in the Washington D.C. area, known for being a pioneer in green building technologies and the commercial application of the principals of Maharishi VedicSM Architecture to enhance worker performance. The Tower Companies’ buildings have won many awards for their environmentally conscious developments and have been certified by the EPA as a carbon neutral company.
“I am very honored to be able to work with such a dynamic Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Abramson. “We are working to expand the University’s enrollment, begin offering on-line courses, and taking leadership roles in the fields of sustainability, education, natural medicine, and media and communications. We also envision a master plan for a sustainable campus, expanding global partnerships with China and India, and an endowment fund for MUM to secure its growth and legacy for future generations.”
Former faculty Dr. Vincent Argiro developed 3-D imaging software to facilitate research on brain development. He founded Vital Images, Inc. in 1988, where he served as Chief Technology Officer and member of the board of directors before retiring in 2006. The Argiro Student Center on campus was named after him and his wife Dr. Maggie Argiro for their generous donation.
The Board of Trustees have also been enriched by five new members including: Mayor Ed Malloy, Jim Danaher, Larry Chroman, Paul Gelderloos, and Eric Schwartz. |
