MBA with Accounting Specialization
Degree Requirements
The total credit requirement for the MBA Accounting Professionals Track is 53. All other tracks in the Accounting MBA Program require 60 credits as follows:
- General Studies that provide a solid interdisciplinary framework for business education. These studies comprise 8 credits, as follows:
- Science & Technology of Consciousness (4 credits)
- MBA Forest Academy (2 credits)
- Career Strategies for finding professional employment after graduation (2 credits)
- Foundational Studies that provide a solid grounding in key functional areas to build management capabilities. These credits may be waived on the basis of undergraduate study in the subject field and a grade of B or better:
- Coverage of five of the six foundational subjects in business administration: marketing, accounting, finance, operations, business law, and human resources, with a total of at least 18 credits
- Advanced Study Electives that provide opportunities to sharpen knowledge in financial or managerial accounting and related areas. These studies comprise at least 34 credits:
- Students are encouraged to take the preparatory courses for all parts of the CPA or CMA exams.
- Additional advanced courses might include intermediate accounting, taxation, business law, international finance, industry analysis, lean accounting, and business ethics.
Additional degree requirements
Within the general degree requirement of the MBA:
- Accounting Professionals MBA students take 12 credits of Advanced Study Electives and at least 9 credits of MGT 598A Practicum coincident with Curricular Practical Training (CPT) in a paid full-time accounting-related position. Total required for graduation: 53 credits.
- MBA Accounting Fresh Start track requires 16 credits of Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I, and Intermediate Accounting II. Total required for graduation: 60 credits, including any undergraduate waivers.
- Students who possess a 3-year bachelor’s degree will be required to take 53-60 credits to graduate. Each applicant will be evaluated individually to determine the required amount of credits, which will vary depending on professional work experience and any academic work beyond their bachelor’s degree.
