Accounting MBA Student Testimonials — India & Nepal
Jyoti Raj Adhikari
Staff Accountant at Frederick Swartz & Co. PC
I became a Chartered Accountant through India’s ICAI in November of 2003. I hold certificates of practice in both India and Nepal. I enrolled at Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in 2008 in the Accounting Professionals MBA program. This MBA program is very well-suited for the professional like me who is practicing or working as an accountant in his home country and has ambitions of expanding his knowledge in the field. We study at MUM in the block system and the study materials are designed by the University to serve the U.S.’s practical, competitive environment.
Unlike other MBA programs, students at MUM study on campus for 7 months followed by off-campus curricular practical training (CPT) for a period up to 24 months. While on campus, I appreciated the good learning environment with fresh, organic vegetarian food three times a day. My day always started with yoga and the Transcendental Meditation technique, both of which gave me the inner strength to overcome stress and expand the boundaries of my brain. I am currently making progress toward my CPA certification. My CPT position is with a local CPA firm, where I am continuing to develop my capabilities in personal and business taxation. The MBA at MUM has provided me with the platform to achieve academic and professional success.

Having earned my Chartered Accountancy in Nepal and having worked for a couple of years in the Accounting profession, I wanted to further advance my career and education through study in the US. I was excited to learn about MUM from my friends, and so I googled the MUM website to explore more about it. I chose MUM, as I wanted to get a CPA and an MBA, and CPA study is offered in the Accounting Professionals MBA Program.
The program and environment of MUM is exactly tuned to support students to achieve these certifications (CPA/CMA). I enrolled in the program in August of 2009. I am currently working in a non-profit organization in Washington, DC, to fulfill the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requirement of my MBA program. I have completed my CPA. Now I’m completing my distance education for the MBA program while also studying for and taking CMA exams.
I feel that the on-campus study at MUM is the best time to get the chance to understand the US culture and job market. Professors prepare you for the real job market. I am very happy with the way I was supported by my department. My accomplishments have been augmented by the endless support and guidance of the MBA department.

I was a commerce graduate who worked for a Big 4 accounting firm in India. I never thought that with my commerce background, I could accomplish my dreams to earn an MBA in the USA. Then I heard about MUM. I was thrilled by hearing the course curriculum. Few other colleges offer an opportunity to study for 7 months on campus followed by curricular practical training. Especially for those who are married and already settled in India (like me), MUM gives you a second chance to make your dreams come true.
One great advantage about this MBA program is the preparation for CPA examinations. For all Indian commerce graduates, your CPA can be accomplished with good preparation such as I received at MUM. I am so glad that MUM has built that bridge so that professional accountants like me can walk into the future. Thank you MUM!!!

The Accounting Professionals MBA Program is one of the most unique programs that one can find in the entire USA. When students go through the on-campus education, they are introduced to various aspects through Transcendental Meditation that will help them throughout their lives. Students also get the opportunity to prepare for the CPA or CMA examinations. The main campus in Fairfield is a place that is “one of a kind”, with smiling faces and friendly people. Truly, it is the type of a place I always hoped to attend, and I am glad to have finally found it.

There's no doubt that the Accounting Professionals MBA Program at Maharishi University of Management is the best program for an accounting professional, even for someone like me who was already a Chartered Accountant in Nepal. This program has value in terms of extending the educational qualifications and professional experience through practical training in a US company. This program is a great platform because it gives the opportunity to learn in a peaceful environment for seven months, followed by a period of practical training to apply what we learn.
I came to the USA to join the Accounting Professionals MBA Program in January of 2008, studied on campus for seven months, and then took a position as Accountant with a healthcare company in the Washington DC area. I worked until December 28, 2010, and my last position was Accounting Manager. I am looking forward to completing my CPA soon. The entire MBA experience gave me a light to find my way in life. Thanks to the Accounting Professionals MBA Program at Maharishi University of Management.

I began my journey at Maharishi University of Management in 2008 with lots of hope, ambition and determination to achieve the pinnacle of success. As a chartered accountant in both India and Nepal, I chose MUM because I could earn an MBA while preparing for the CPA examinations, and later apply what I learned during my curricular practical training. I was provided with financial assistance which covered my tuition. While I was on campus, I learned Transcendental Meditation (TM), which helped to optimize my brain functioning and reduce stress. I feel that TM helped me pass both my CPA and my CISA examinations. Consciousness-based education at MUM is a very thrilling environment. I appreciate the moral and emotional support I have received throughout my program.

I am a Chartered Accountant from Nepal and I also completed my CPA here in the USA. The program structure at MUM provides a good platform for doing CPA and CMA preparation while studying on campus. The seven months of on-campus education allows enough time to understand the US accounting and management practices. My CPT supervisor is very happy with my progress and the quality of work I deliver. The classes at MUM prepared us well. I am very happy with this MBA program.

MUM is the kind of place where I had always longed to be. My experience with MUM has been truly rewarding and fruitful. I joined MUM in August of 2007 in the Accounting Professionals MBA program. Back home in Nepal, I already had a Master’s Degree from Tribhuvan University and was working as an Assistant Manager with Everest Bank Ltd, one of the leading private sector banks.
My six months of on-campus study was a very enriching experience for me. Apart from my studies, I had an opportunity to interact with my colleagues from eleven countries. Further, the professors would not only help us with our studies but would also help us in understanding the American way of life and work. I need not explain how important that is for someone who comes from a totally different culture and background.
The University’s curriculum not only helps students earn an MBA degree but also prepares them for the CPA/CMA exams. It is because of this flexibility that I was able to earn my CPA, and now I hold an active CPA license in Virginia.
The Career Strategies sessions at the University were, in fact, an ‘add on’ for me. The support received from the University’s placement center is amazing. With their guidance and support, in less than two months, I was able to find a position as a financial analyst with a DC area company. My decision to join MUM is one of the best decisions I have made in my life...I would definitely recommend MUM to anyone.
