Admission Requirements
Before applying, please carefully read all requirements below. Admission requirements are subject to change.
- You must have a minimum of two years of full-time paid professional work experience in accounting.
- It is recommended that you possess a 3-year or 4-year undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree in accounting or business administration (with at least 2 accounting courses) from an accredited college, university, or institute.
- A student who does not have a bachelor’s degree in business must have earned a master’s degree in a related area of business, accounting or finance.
- You must possess a basic understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and Excel spreadsheets. You will be asked to provide verbal evidence of your competency in this area.
- You must have earned a minimum cumulative overall GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or second division rank. A slightly lower GPA may be considered if you have a strong work history and/or accounting certifications. Applicants with a GPA under 3.0 may be advised to pass the C.P.A. or A.C.C.A. to enhance their chances for success in acquiring a student visa.
English proficiency
If you pass the document stage of the application process, you will be interviewed to assess your English fluency and accounting knowledge. Here are the criteria used in this assessment:
- You need to speak English well enough to be understood by the listener without difficulty. An accent is acceptable if it does not prevent the listener from easily understanding you. A few minor errors in speech are acceptable.
- You need to understand English when it is spoken to you in a normal conversational speed.
- You need to read and write English with little or no difficulty.
- You need to know accounting terminology in English. It is strongly recommended that you study an American textbook in financial accounting.
If you do not yet have the level of English proficiency described above, you are encouraged to obtain intensive English training from Americans (or other native English-speaking instructors) in your home country. It is important that you select a school or teacher with a very good reputation for improving spoken English skills. Applicants who do not demonstrate English fluency may be required to take the TOEFL examination.
GMAT
You are not required to take the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). But we encourage applicants from other countries to take this test, because it may help in obtaining an F-1 visa from the U.S. visa officers. Information on the GMAT is available at www.mba.com.
The Transcendental Meditation Technique
All of our students learn the Transcendental Meditation technique before or shortly after arriving on campus. Hundreds of scientific studies indicate that the benefits from regular practice of the this technique develop the creativity and intelligence necessary for successful business management. The Transcendental Meditation technique and the Science of Creative Intelligence are integral elements of all educational programs at our University. Students participating in the Accounting Professionals Program should feel comfortable with this aspect of education.
