Hello, my name is Dara Llewellyn (the blogger)

Blogging. I write this blog Reflective Writing: Writing from Within [mum.edu/reflective-writing] for the University on an occasional basis (trying for weekly posts). The focus of the site is reflective writing. Reflection is fundamental to all writing. I tend to write about whatever is currently absorbing my attention in the areas of writing, consciousness, literature, movies, travel writing, etc. For example, I did a series of posts during a recent trip to India, which can be found on my site. I tend to find connections each week with the act of reflection. I welcome comments and would enjoy a dialogue with anyone interested in reflection or in any other of my posts. For more information about me, see below.

Education and Teaching. Dara Llewellyn (that’s me, the blogger) an Associate Professor in the English department at Maharishi University of Management, graduated with a Ph.D. in English from the University of Iowa in 1992. My areas of concentration include writing theory and pedagogy and nineteenth-century American literature with a specialty in the short story. After teaching at other colleges and universities in Iowa, Florida, and North Carolina, I returned to MUM in 2007 and began teaching a variety of literature and writing classes, including Reading and Writing the Short Story, Composition I and II, The Great American Road Trip, Freelance Writing for Fun and Profit, The Ancient Tale, and  Reflective Writing and Blogging.

Writing. My professional writing has been in the area of national educational testing. Yes, I write some of those passages you had to read on the ACT or the SAT. I enjoy this work because it allows me to write about topics that are of interest to me and it keeps me writing on a regular basis. It's one of those career sidelines that a literature major can fall back on :-). I also enjoy writing poetry and, of course, I enjoy the blogging I do on this site.

Editing. Since 2008, I have served as editor for MUM’s academic press imprint  Consciousness-BasedSM Books, currently producing a series of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s collected lectures on the different academic disciplines. An earlier volume in the series on literature and language, called The Flow of Consciousness, was published in 2010, and the second volume in the series on art, called The Unmanifest Canvas, is due out this year, 2014. Another book, published in January 2014, called Consciousness is Primary, presents a symposium held at the University with Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam presiding. That symposium explored how pure consciousness is, indeed, primary—the foundation of life, the cosmos, and all disciplines of knowledge.
