World-Class Expert on Soil Biology to Give Workshops
Dr. Elaine Ingham, a world-renowned soil biologist and MUM sustainable living visiting faculty, is on campus this month to teach about soil microbiology.

While here she will present two Saturday afternoon microscope workshops on April 6th & 13th, 12:30-4:30 pm, in the MUM Sustainable Living Center.

Composting to the highest standard requires observing the soil biology with a microscope. This is the focus of our short course. Come with an understanding of Dr. Ingham’s concepts of the composting process and the ability to use a microscope.

$150 will be asked for each day’s attendance.

Day 1- On April 6th we will provide an introduction to identifying microbes with microscopes and the spreadsheet used to count them. We suggest bringing laptops or thumb drives.

Day 2- April 13th will be focused on the application of microscopy during compost extraction and tea brewing. Bringing a camera may be helpful.

Assisting Dr. Ingham will be Molly Haviland, Jessica Smith, and Jacob Krieger, three undergraduate students in the Sustainable Living Department.

Join us for this workshop and take your understanding of the soil to a new level.
