Hosted at the beautiful, world renowned Finca Luna Nueva eco-resort, bio-dynamic organic farm, and sacred seed sanctuary near the exquisite Children's Eternal Rainforest of Costa Rica. Trip includes site visits to other Costa Rica farms, an “ecocommunity” farmers markets, breathtaking national parks and eco-adventure sport excursions (participation is optional).

Finca Luna Nueva has on-site more than 500 mature tropical fruits trees, an organic ginger and turmeric plantation, several acres of organic vegetable production, AND over 100 acres of an untouched rain forest eco-system with trails for exploration.

Course Fee covers all round-trip transportation from Fairfield, Iowa, three meals a day while in Costa Rica, lodging (2-4 to a room) in Costa Rica, samples of exotic tropical fruits and veggies, and all transportation within Costa Rica.

For kids: Carnival Night at Maharishi School

Maharishi Middle School students are inviting children to attend their school project, Carnival Night, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Maharishi School Assembly Hall.

Carnival Night activities will include a fun house, magician, snacks, raffle, a slapstick comedy act and many games created by the students.

Students in first through sixth grade do not need parental supervision; middle schoolers and teachers will be available to supervise, but children younger than first grade must be accompanied by a parent.

The purpose of the project is for the students to learn business planning and bookkeeping. The middle school students have been learning about probability and profit.

Maharishi School Theater Cavalcade Performances

The public is invited to Maharishi School's Theater Cavalcade Performances at Spayde Theater on MUM campus, February 22-23 at 7 p.m. and 2:00 matinee on February 24.

Two of Maharishi School’s Cavalcade performances have been selected to perform at the annual All-State Festival in Ames on February 16. Selected to perform are a one act play, The Elephant Man, and a choral reading performance entitled Dream Song. Of the 43 Maharishi School students that performed at the competition, 20 will perform at the Festival. In addition, one of the school’s group improvisational teams was honored by judges as an “Outstanding Performance.”

Being selected to perform at the Festival “is a huge honor and I am very happy for them,” shared Speech Coach and professional actor, Ben Estey. “All of our students, both performing and non-performing should be very proud of the work they've done and I know, are very excited for the upcoming festival.”

The Elephant Man is a 1977 play by Bernard Pomerance. The story is based on the true life story of Joseph Merrick, a severely deformed man who lived during the Victorian era, as told through the accounts of Sir Frederick Treves, a prominent surgeon in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

As a One Act Play, the play is cut to 35 min and performed with full costuming props, sets and lighting. The cast includes: Laser Nite, Hifza Akber, Girindra Selleck, Brecon Anastasio, Vinit Suganur, Dia Huggins, Alina Knight and Huijin Zhou.

Dream Song is a fifteen minute compilation of poetry, music and movement with amazing costumes. This piece follows the theme of dreams through poems by Neruda and Kipling, rockabilly pop from the 50’s, and modern folk rock. It’s a high energy piece about what it means to “dream with your eyes open.” The Choral Reading category has long been the flagship of the Maharishi School Speech Program.

Cast includes: Brecon Anastasio, Kishan Thijm, Luis Giron, Bryan Prather-Huff, Nathaniel Zhu, Girindra Selleck, Raffi Gelfand, Katya Sheridan, Alina Knight, Sophia Medvedeva, Chosie Titus, Isabel Reed, Chen Xi, Samantha Bell and Gabriella Sleiman.

Performers receiving special accolades for their improvisational performance are: Avery Travis, Mickey DeAngelis, Niko Thiel, Surya Sawhney, .

“I’m very happy with all of our entries this year,” said Estey, “every piece has something special and I have enjoyed watching these young performers come into their own throughout this demanding process.”

Screening of movie "The Vindication of Ronald Clay"

The second screening of the movie The Vindication of Ronald Clay will be held February 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Dalby Hall, Argiro Student Center.

Made by MUM faculty and students, the Vindication of Ronald Clay has been traveling to film festivals abroad, but is now back in Fairfield for the second screening. If you didn't have a chance to see it the first time, come see it now. If you saw it the first time, come see it again in its new edition.

Information about the film:
Shot on location in Fairfield, with an all-Iowa cast and crew, The Vindication of Ronald Clay is a smart, stylistic adventure about the interwoven fables of five patrons to a coffee shop at the center of the universe. Set in an alternate timeline where Napoleon's descendents rule Europe, The Vindication of Ronald Clay is equal parts Flash Gordon, Dick Tracy, and The Princess Bride, with lots of spies, lies, machinations and fun. It is directed by Cullen Thomas and produced by Donald Revolinski.

Full Moon Celebration

February 25, 2013 Full Moon Celebration

Celebrating the Revival of Katyayani Shiksha and celebrating the greatest most auspicious Kumbha Mela in 146 years

Program:

Listening to the recitation of the beginning and ending verses of Shiksha, recited by Maharishi Vedic Pandits, from the 2-CD set published by Vedic-Arts. (20 min.)

Katyayani Shiksha is a small but important Shiksha, one of the 60 main texts making up the corpus of Vedic Shiksha. The only known manuscript, written on paper in Devanagari script, was located in the library of the University of Bombay. There will be a brief discussion of this Shiksha, and then a group recitation in Sanskrit of all 11 verses of the text, probably the first public recitation of the entire text in hundreds of years! (15 min.)

In celebration of this Grand Kumbha Mela, the greatest in the 146 year cycle of Kumbha Mela celebrations, we will play a very special tape of Maharishi made at the Kumbha Mela in 1966. In this amazing 17 minute talk, Maharishi describes the different milestones on the path to full enlightenment, telling a delightful story from the Vedic Literature as an illustration. He also describes his own inaugural speech to a symposium of scholars at Kumbha Mela, and reflects on the importance of collecting together all the scattered texts of Vedic Literature. Finally, he emphasizes the value of the recitation of the sounds of the texts of Vedic Literature without regard to meaning. This is an historic lecture, highlighting the great successes of the movement at that time, the successes which formed the basis in later years for the World Plan and for the Global Administration of Natural Law, and the Global Country of World Peace.

An Art of Peace: Reliefs and sculpture 2009-2013

Kim Matthews' sculpture is a visual meditation exploring the evolution of consciousness through form. Through repetition, texture, simple forms and limited color, they direct the viewer to inner space.

She is a visiting artist at MUM and will be exhibiting her work at Unity Gallery in the MUM Library from February 26th through April 5th.

Opening reception Tuesday, February 26, 7:30–9:00 p.m.
